Welcome to my inaugural ezine! This week I am writing to the sounds of the children joyfully playing outside in the schoolyard of our Gold Hill elementary school. Balls bouncing, children calling out, and now the old fashion bell rings to bring us all back inside to refocus. I am so excited to share with each of you observations, insights, and tools to assist you with refocusing and aligning your intuitive self within your everyday lives.
Walking In Beauty Many of you who have listened through to the end of my voice mail outgoing message have heard my simple blessing of “and may you walk in beauty.” For this, my inaugural ezine, I wanted to share the entire Navajo prayer from where this blessing originates. As many of you may know, I have spent time working with the Navajo women as both a labor and delivery RN and as a Certified Nurse Midwife. I have spent most of my Navajo time in the heart of the reservation, in Chinle, the town adjacent to the Canyon de Chelly, home of spider women. In the Navajo cosmology, spider women is the creator who creates the world. From her center of intent, she weaves our lives and our world. The Canyon de Chelly is considered by many to be a sacred power spot. Anyone of you who have traveled to Navajo land have witnessed its stark, raw beauty and power juxtaposed with its desolation and overwhelming poverty. It is a landscape teeming with inspiration, power, intensity and miracles. The beauty prayer reminds and gives me a simple, concrete tool I can use to calm my mind -especially during times of fear and hardship. It provides a starting place that if I surround and infuse myself with thoughts and intentions of beauty from the inside out, life will be filled with beauty. I remember, or, in some instances, I am reminded that I am not alone and that life is good. By this refocusing on the beauty around me, my life recalibrates to beauty. And like a domino. my day and life starts to click click click, shifts and falls into its new order. Recently I shared this prayer in a blessingway I attended while in Telluride. I will share more on blessingways in a future ezine. Below I have included several versions of the prayer. Try these as a walking meditation. Below in the Resources section are renditions from two different artists of the prayer as a song/chant.
